About this place
The Yoshijima Family Residence is an old private house in Daishincho, Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. It is a building making up the Takayama Shimoninomachi-Daishincho Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and is also included among the component cultural properties of the Agency for Cultural Affairs-certified Japan Heritage "The Skills and Spirit of Hida Craftsmen - 1,300 Years Passed Down with Wood." It was built after the great fire of 1875 (Meiji 8) as the residence of the Yoshijima family, wealthy merchants who ran a sake brewing business and more in Takayama.
