About this place
Shichiriiwa is a plateau in the Kyohoku region of Yamanashi Prefecture. In the broad sense it refers to the plateau that extends from Fujimi, Suwa District, Nagano Prefecture, through Kobuchizawa, Nagasaka, Oizumi, Takane and part of Sutama in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture, to the center of Nirasaki. Shichiriiwa is an erosion cliff formed by the Kamanashi River on the west and the Shio River on the east cutting into the flat land formed by the debris avalanche called the Nirasaki debris flow (or Nirasaki mudflow, Nirasaki debris avalanche), caused by the collapse of Mount Yatsugatake about 200,000 years ago.
