About this place
Nakata Foods Co., Ltd. is a company with its head office in Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture. It originated in 1897 (Meiji 30), when the rice dealer Nakata Genjiro founded Nakata Shoten in Shimoakitsu Village, Nishimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture. In 1925 (Taisho 14) it entered the pickled plum (umeboshi) processing business, and in the early Showa period expanded its business to selling pickles, citrus fruits, fertilizer and more in addition to rice, but after the war it reorganized its business and became solely an umeboshi processor.
