About this place
Oarai Sun Beach is a beach in Oarai, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture. A bathing beach was born in Oarai in 1888 (Meiji 21). Facing Kashima-nada, it is a shallow beach of white sand and green pines. It is the largest beach in the prefecture and draws visitors from various places outside the prefecture. It has been selected by the Ministry of the Environment as one of the 100 Best Bathing Beaches. It is Japan's first barrier-free beach.
