About this place
Bunkamura (Bunkamura, Culture Village) is a large complex cultural facility in Dogenzaka, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, Japan. It consists of an art museum for special exhibitions, a mini-theater, a concert hall and more. It opened in 1989. When Okada Shigeru, president of Toei and a younger associate of Goto Noboru, head of the Tokyu Group, named the theme park he opened in 1975 Toei Uzumasa Eigamura (Toei Uzumasa Movie Village), Goto was impressed, saying "You gave it a good title." Goto then conceived this project and gave it a similar "- mura" (village) name.
