About this place
The Ubagami Daijingu Togyosai is the annual grand festival of Ubagami Daijingu in Esashi, Hiyama District, Hokkaido, a shrine said to be the oldest in Hokkaido. Held every year over three days, August 9, 10 and 11, it is said to be Hokkaido's oldest festival and boasts a history of more than 380 years. After the portable shrine procession that accompanies the Shinto rites, festival floats (yama) parade through the town. The culture of Kyoto's Gion Festival was brought by the old Kitamaebune trade, and the festival follows in that tradition.
