Overview
The Omizu-okuri rite, in which water drawn here is sent on, pairs with the Omizu-tori at Nigatsudo in Todaiji. Wakasa and Nara are joined by water.
About this place
Wakasa Jinguji is a Tendai-sect temple in Obama, Fukui. Its mountain name is Reiosan and its principal image is a seated Yakushi Nyorai. It is the temple where the 'Omizuokuri' (water-sending ceremony) to the Nigatsudo of Todaiji is held. On April 24, 2015 (Heisei 27), it was certified as a Japan Heritage site as a component cultural property of 'Wakasa's Heritage of Travel Culture Linking the Sea and the Capital: Wakasa, Land of Imperial Food Offerings, and the Mackerel Road'.
