Shiogama Jinja
Its deity is said to have taught people how to make salt. Every July a rite is still held to draw salt from seawater by the ancient method. Salt is the precondition for preserved food, so faith and the origin of the local diet sit in the same place.

3GeV High-Brilliance Synchrotron Radiation Facility NanoTerasu
A large synchrotron radiation facility on Aobayama in Sendai. It accelerates electrons to produce intense X-rays and reveals the structure of materials and medicines at the level of the arrangement of atoms. It began operation in 2024.
