How much serum is right? | A note on the proper amount and timing

Looking at the serum in your palm, have you ever wondered, “Is this enough?” or “Should I apply more?”

Serum has a slightly special place within skincare. That is precisely why it is easy to think, “The more I use, the better it will be for my skin,” but in fact, keeping to the “right amount” is the shortcut to comfort.

Today, let’s relax and take another look at the right amount of serum and the best timing. Rather than being bound by numbers, we hope you will read this as a hint for having a conversation with your own skin.

How much serum should you use as a guide?

Most serums show a recommended amount per use on the package or from the brand. Starting with that guideline is the safest approach. In general, one pump on your fingertips, or a few drops, gently spread over the entire face is a good guide. If you use too little, it may not reach the whole skin; if you use too much, it can sometimes cause stickiness. If you feel it may not be enough, rather than increasing the amount all at once, we recommend layering it only on areas where dryness bothers you.

When does it blend in most comfortably?

As a basic rule, serum is used after softening the skin with toner and before sealing it in with lotion or cream. Applying it when the skin is ready to receive moisture allows you to slowly feel its benefits. It can be used morning or night, but at the end of the day, your skin may be a little tired from daytime stress. Adding it to your nighttime care may make it easier to notice a difference in how your skin feels the next morning.

If I use more, will the effect increase that much?

It is natural to feel that using plenty must be better, but there is a limit to how much the skin can receive at one time. Even if you layer on far more than the recommended amount, the excess may remain on the skin and feel sticky, or it may not blend well with the lotion you use next. What matters is not increasing the amount, but being able to continue every day. Applying just the right amount without strain is the most reliable habit.

Are you giving your skin just the right amount now?

With serum, whether you use too much or too little, you cannot fully receive its comfort. Start with the recommended amount, then adjust little by little while listening to your skin. At Value Village, rather than encouraging you to use more, we hope to be a caring partner who helps you find the way of using it that feels just right for your skin. Tonight, why not take a small look again at your usual amount?
