Create “a little breathing room” in busy days. | A deep breath for the heart, to become kinder to the person in the mirror.
Work, housework, childcare, and more: the days pass by in a constant rush.
When you are working hard for someone else, do you ever end up putting yourself last, then suddenly look in the washbasin mirror and feel that the face reflected there looks “somehow really tired”?
You sigh at your tired self, thinking “I need to pull myself together” or “I need to take proper care of myself,” and end up pushing yourself even harder.
The more sincere and hardworking a person is, the more likely they are to fall into that kind of vicious cycle.
If your heart feels just a little heavy each time you look in the mirror.
It may be good to take a break from aiming for perfection and try to be aware of just a little “space in the heart” within your busy everyday life.
This time, we suggest a small habit of taking a deep breath, to help you become friends again with the person in the mirror.
1. The “tired face” in the mirror is proof that you are doing your best
When stress and tension continue, we unconsciously clench our back teeth or tense the area between our eyebrows, causing our expressions to become stiff.
When the heart is tightly hardened, it appears just as it is on the face, and the natural glow and brightness of the skin seem to hide away somewhere.
But that “tired face” is the clearest proof that you are living each day with all your effort.
First, look in the mirror and, without criticizing yourself, simply acknowledge yourself as you are: “I worked really hard all day today.”
Just by stopping the harsh words you direct at yourself, the tension in your expression will gently begin to loosen, little by little.
2. A little space for the heart can be found in your daily skin-care time
Loosening your heart does not mean you need to rush off to a special retreat or an expensive spa.
In fact, the chance to create a small pocket of space in a busy everyday life is quietly hidden in the skin-care time we naturally take each day.
A hectic morning, or a night when you are completely exhausted.
Rather than treating cleansing and moisturizing as nothing more than “removing dirt” or “a routine chore,” it can be lovely to slow down just a little and experience them as precious time to care for yourself.
✔️ When applying toner, gently cup your cheeks with your palms, slowly close your eyes, and try taking a deep breath.
✔️ On a weekend night, put on your favorite face mask, brew a warm herbal tea, and listen to music that helps you relax.
✔️ When cleansing, try focusing all your senses on the bouncy feel of the foam and the fragrance you love.
Even if it is only for a few minutes, if you can create that kind of space to treat yourself with care while touching your skin, your hurried feelings should gradually settle, and you can return to your neutral self.
3. So that looking in the mirror becomes just a little more enjoyable
“I am doing more than enough as I am, so it is okay.”
When you let the tension leave your shoulders and become kinder to yourself as you touch your skin.
Strangely enough, the expression in the mirror softens, and your natural brightness and sense of clarity return.
Busy days may continue from here on.
But at the beginning and end of each day, “a deep breath for your skin and heart” if you carry that small charm with you, I feel you will surely be able to get through it with a calm heart.
So that tomorrow morning, when your eyes meet your own in the mirror, you can naturally smile back.
May days like that come to you, as if you are walking hand in hand, on good terms with yourself.
